The group, known informally as the BaMpots, meets at 10.30 on the first Tuesday of every month throughout the year. The get-togethers generally last around 90 minutes.

During the main growing period (approx. April to October) the group either visits a member's garden for a tour, a coffee and a chat or travels to one of the local garden centres to see what plants are available and have a coffee or lunch. Other outings are also planned, whether visits via 'Scotland's Gardens' or travelling to see interesting gardens open to the public elsewhere in the central belt. Please note that being part of the group does not require members either to have a garden or to open their gardens to members. This is a group simply for people who love gardens.

As with other U3A groups there is a social as well as an educational / technical element. Members share their experience of gardening in the area, including what grows well / less well, how / when to prune, how to take cuttings and / or divide plants, how to contend with pests, etc. In other words, all the things that garden enthusiasts enjoy talking about. And the group also provides an opportunity for everyone to offer cuttings, seeds, plants, etc. to others in the group, to alert everyone to things like gardening-themed events in the area, plant sales, open days, tips on garden centres, etc..
