Geraldine McFaul, a freelance Risk Management Consultant from Balarnock, had dreamed of visiting Rome for seven years, then she made the decision to go after her friends urged her to "just get on with it".
However, unlike most people who would have jumped on a flight she decided to challenge herself to walk from her home in Glasgow to Rome.
Ms McFaul walked about 12 miles a day to cover the 1,400-mile route and arrived in the Italian capital after six months. When she arrived in Vatican City's St Peter's Square on a Saturday morning there was a welcoming party of loved ones who had flown to Italy from Glasgow to celebrate with her.
She said there were difficulties along the way but she would always tell herself "don't worry about tomorrow, just get through today".
She is coming to speak to us in July about the book she has written about her adventure.
