Roger is a specialist in Adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine and continues to work clinically in the NHS.  In parallel with his UK EM career he works in both expedition medicine and humanitarian global EM.  He previously worked for four years at the International Committee of the Red Cross HQ in Geneva where he was the technical referent for emergency care globally.  He now works for the Norwegian Red Cross as the Senior Medical Advisor in International Health Emergencies. 

In humanitarian settings Roger has responded to conflict, infectious disease outbreaks and natural disasters together with capacity building in emergency care and preparedness.  He has also contributed to WHO technical working groups on Mass Casualty Burns and Minimum Data Sets in Conflict; the WHO Emergency Care Systems Toolkit including the Basic Emergency Care course and Mass Casualty Integrated Interagency Triage Tool and the updated WHO Guidelines for Essential Trauma Care (EsTC). 

In February 2020 after a fantastic few days skiing in Norway he and two friends sat down with two polar guides and decided to ski to the South Pole.  Nearly 3 years later on the 9^th January 2023 the 9 member civilian and military INSPIRE-22 team together with two guides completed a journey from the edge of the sea ice up to the South Pole.  The INSPIRE-22 team researched human catabolic and bone metabolism, wearable technology and sleep and psychology pre-, during and post expedition achieving the largest mobile research expedition in Antarctica.
