Dr Richard Petty is a retired Consultant Neurologist who worked in Glasgow at the then Southern General Hospital from 1990 to 2015, and from then to 2019 part-time in the department of Genetics at the Western Infirmary in Edinburgh. In this period, he developed services for muscle diseases as well as Motor Neurone Disease. In his teens, with maths class mates, he used Fortran IV programming language with an IBM computer occupying an entire room to allow for 256KB of rapid access storage with a whole 8 MB of slower access storage; and has had interest in the use of computerisation in medicine from that time. This talk will address the benefits, risks and dangers of the use of A.I. in contemporary medicine.
